Every rock legend started somewhere — and this is your chance to start here. The Rockstalgia MainStage Challenge is a high-energy, multi-round competition bringing together the best local and regional bands from across Durham, Clarington, Peterborough, and Northumberland. It’s where emerging talent meets epic opportunity. Bands battle it out on stage for a shot to perform at Rockstalgia 2027, alongside some of the biggest names in classic and alternative rock. Real music. Real energy. Real competition. This is your road to the main stage.
How the MainStage Challenge works

Bands Apply & Auditions Begin
Artists from across the region submit to the MainStage Challenge. We review every entry to build a lineup of diverse, talented acts ready to hit the spotlight.

The Live Showcases
The Challenge isn’t just one night—it’s a series of live events across Durham Region, with upcoming rounds on Nov 15, 2026 and Apr 17, 2027. Each act performs two original songs in front of a live audience. Performances are judged on musicianship, stage presence, originality, and audience connection.

The Festival Showdown
All advancing MainStage Challenge bands will compete live at the festival in a special showdown on the Local & Loud Stage. Each band performs a short, high-energy set. Scores from our expert judging panel combine with fan voting to determine the final outcome and crown the ultimate winner.

Judging & Audience Votes
A panel of judges (musicians, industry pros, and community leaders) scores each act. But the audience plays a role too—your votes help decide who moves forward! A winner is chosen at each event.
